While the crypto community’s attention was centered on Starknet’s airdrop on February 20th, Optimism, an Ethereum Layer-2 network, caught users off guard by distributing over 10 million OP tokens to nearly 23,000 users. The giveaway targeted NFT artists and marked the first airdrop of its kind within Optimism’s Superchain framework. The airdrop was part of Optimism’s broader strategy to embrace artists across major communities, with over 200,000 addresses having created NFT collections on the platform.
Generous Token Distribution to Artists
Optimism’s team highlighted the event’s details in a Mirror publication, setting the final participation deadline for January 10, 2024. Eligibility was determined by NFTs published on Zora, Base, Ethereum, and Optimism’s own network. With an eye on inclusivity, the initiative underscored the network’s support for artistic endeavors across the digital realm.
Staying Safe and Participating in Governance
In addition to celebrating the airdrop, Optimism’s team issued a cautionary note about phishing scams, urging users to rely on official channels for accurate information. The team also provided guidance on asset delegation for those who received tokens, encouraging them to partake in the governance process. For those who missed out on this airdrop, Optimism reassured that 560 million more OP tokens are slated for future distributions within the Superchain. The team emphasized that active participation within the ecosystem is key to qualifying for such events, advocating for continuous engagement and awareness of platform developments.
