Pudgy Penguins, one of the leading collections on the Ethereum network, has announced the next phase of the project’s development. Named Pudgy World, the Web3 game is described as a digital environment where players will engage, supported by the Ethereum Layer-2 network zkSync Era.
The announcement by the Pudgy Penguins team was shared with the public during a special period of success for the project. According to Opensea data, the base price of the NFT collection has almost doubled in the last two weeks, and the brand has launched its toys in 2,000 Walmart stores across the United States. Toy sales are ongoing in half of the over 4,000 branches in the US, and the team is expanding toy sales in many countries, primarily the United Kingdom.
The Pudgy World game will be open to all players, but Pudgy NFT and Pudgy Toy owners will have unique advantages in the game’s virtual world. While there are very few details currently available about the game, the company has introduced two hero characters, Pudgy and Peaches, who will guide players in their adventures. Both characters featured in the game’s animated launch trailer.
The company also announced that NFT owners will benefit from copyright due to the purchase of products related to the game’s ecosystem. This decision was made after the original founders, who initially proposed creating a metaverse game, were dismissed by Pudgy Penguins community managers for not keeping their promises.
The company stated that the zkSync deal was chosen by the Pudgy Penguins team because the Layer-2 network is the first zkEVM with the fastest proof system in production, scaling Ethereum to millions of developers and billions of users. The team expressed that zkSync is the only chain that will defend the success of Pudgy World and the Pudgy community while introducing blockchain technology to mobile gamers and providing support.
