Ripple‘s CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, emphasized that the growing integration of stablecoins within the company augments XRP’s utility and strengthens the overall ecosystem on the XRP Ledger. In an interview with Bloomberg, Garlinghouse highlighted XRP’s central role in Ripple’s operations, clarifying that RLUSD is designed to complement, not compete with, this structure.
RLUSD as a Complement, Not a Competitor
Dismissing any notions that XRP is tangential to Ripple’s operations, Garlinghouse pointed out the importance of examining the broader picture. Ripple’s introduction of RLUSD is not intended to replace XRP but to expand its application. This strategic positioning aims to enhance XRP’s versatility rather than serve as an alternative.
Brad Garlinghouse stated, “XRP sits at the heart of Ripple’s entire operations, and RLUSD is designed to complement this framework.”
According to Garlinghouse, approximately half of the RLUSD supply is on the XRP Ledger, which bolsters liquidity, transaction volume, and overall activity on the network. This distribution creates new use cases for participants within the ecosystem.
Ripple management explained that RLUSD serves as an entry point for institutional clients to engage with blockchain infrastructure. Corporate treasuries, financial managers, and executives explore digital asset capabilities through stablecoins, aiming to introduce these clients to a broader suite of services, including XRP.
Strategic Expansion in Blockchain Services
Garlinghouse noted that Ripple’s priority is to provide solutions that meet client demands, whether for stablecoins, XRP, or fiat-based payment systems. As Ripple broadens its service offerings, the company increasingly integrates XRP into its operations.
X Finance Bull echoed Garlinghouse’s remarks, urging those concerned with short-term XRP price drops to focus on the company’s growth trajectory. The commentator suggested that the expansion of RLUSD and the XRP Ledger should be a primary consideration when assessing Ripple’s progress.
Garlinghouse mentioned, “Ripple is focused on solving client issues, offering products that meet their needs, whether that need is a stablecoin or XRP.”
Price Pressure Fuels Debate Among Stakeholders
However, some XRP holders express dissatisfaction with its price performance. A user known as JTC acknowledged Ripple’s partnerships and global licenses but lamented the approximately 70% decline in XRP value over the past 16 months, noting the mounting challenge of enduring such losses.
Summit Horizon provided additional data on RLUSD distribution across networks, revealing a total issuance of approximately $2.63 billion. Notably, about $897 million is held on the XRP Ledger, with the remaining balance on the Ethereum network.
This distribution chart serves as a critical measure of RLUSD’s direct contribution to the XRP Ledger. While Ripple acknowledges that increased network activity does not automatically translate into XRP price increases, the company remains committed to maintaining XRP at the core of its long-term strategy.
