Sotheby’s auction house has initiated an online auction with three pieces from a 222-piece series from the BitcoinShrooms collection. The sale, which will last from December 6 to December 13, was designed to display the history, culture, and fundamental technical features of the Bitcoin ecosystem.
So far, 107 bids have been placed on the auction. The “S” lot received the most attention with 44 bids. Each lot’s estimated value is set to be between $20,000 and $30,000 without reserve. However, the highest bid for the “S” lot was recorded at $42,500.
Shroomtoshi commented on the collection, stating that it represents a pixelated summary of Bitcoin’s first 13 years and pays homage to the 8-bit art style of the 90s. He also mentioned that it is a way of “infecting” thousands of SSDs worldwide with his art.
Casey Rodarmor introduced the Bitcoin Ordinals protocol in January. This protocol offers a way to store and trade NFT and token projects within the Bitcoin ecosystem. Users can mint NFTs, BRC-20 tokens, and other arbitrary data directly on the blockchain using satoshis, the smallest units of Bitcoin.
BRC-20 style token projects have gained popularity in other ecosystems such as Ethereum, Solana, Near, Polygon, Celo, and Fantom in recent weeks. This has sparked discussions over the use of these assets and led to a significant increase in network activity within Bitcoin and other ecosystems.
