In a move marking its continued evolution in the blockchain landscape, Stellar has upgraded its Rust-based Soroban SDK to version 28, integrating support for Protocol 28. The new update was officially launched on September 16 into Stellar’s main network, as disclosed by Build on Stellar.
Protocol 28 Introduces Faster Consensus and Enhanced Security
The Protocol 28 update, also known as Adapter, offers significant improvements including faster consensus mechanisms, the ability for atomic upgrades across numerous contracts, and tools for securely transferring contract data in a standardized manner. The Soroban Rust SDK version 28 aligns with these changes, bringing various compile system updates, fortified data transfer capabilities, and a range of new functionalities.
Build on Stellar announced the release of Soroban SDK version 28, which supports Protocol 28 that went live on September 16.
Key highlights of the latest release include Spec Shaking v2, enhanced contract data transfer support, sporadically published events, executable references, and local contracts that can be loaded in tests. These additions are expected to aid developers in managing contract migrations with greater control.
Compile System and Data Structure Innovations
Spec Shaking v2 technically alters how contract features are incorporated into the final output. The system mimics compiler techniques like dead code elimination, where SDK now creates an entry for every element, enabling stellar cli’s compile system to prune unused entries from the contract. This streamlines the final binary for efficiency and precision.
Noteworthy updates were also made regarding the ledger’s data structure representation. Data is stored in a map using field names as keys. Previously, this map had to match the structure identically, meaning all fields needed to be included as keys without extras. These technical changes—critical in network upgrades and resistance monitoring—require close attention to developer tools.
In a market where a single Federal Reserve decision or a sudden altcoin listing can cause rapid shifts, traders are increasingly turning to privacy-focused tools like CryptoAppsy. Without the need for account registration, users can manage real-time charts, smart price alerts, personalized coin news, and critical macroeconomic data from a single platform.
Stellar Marks Its 11th Anniversary Milestone
This technical update coincides with a symbolic period for Stellar, as the network celebrates its 11th anniversary since its launch on September 30, 2015. Over this period, Stellar has established infrastructure supporting use cases from cross-border payments to tokenized assets, focusing on speeding up and liberating financial transactions.
Recently, the network surpassed a significant milestone in real-world assets (RWA), with the number of RWA holders in the Stellar ecosystem exceeding 22,000. This reflects Stellar’s progress in bridging blockchain-based asset usage with traditional financial applications.
Tomer Weller, Product Director at Stellar Foundation, noted that the anniversary marks the foundation of the new Stellar network, while the original network, initiated in 2014, operated with the native asset called Stellars and the STR code.
Tomer Weller, in his anniversary remarks, recalled the establishment of the new Stellar network, highlighting that the original network, launched in 2014, utilized the native asset Stellars under the STR code.
