In the rapidly evolving arena of real-world asset tokenization, the balance of power is shifting significantly within the commodities sector. Traditionally recognized for its prowess in cross-border interbank transfers, XRP Ledger has emerged as the front-runner in the tokenized commodities market, overtaking Ethereum in terms of market value growth. According to data from Token Terminal and RWA Foundation, XRP Ledger experienced a net capital influx of $2.2 billion into tokenized commodities from early 2026 to October, eclipsing Ethereum’s $1.6 billion over the same period.
Leadership Change in the Commodity Market
Other major Layer 1 blockchain networks remain far behind these two leaders. Avalanche captured the third position with $334.5 million, followed by the BNB Chain with a mere $57.5 million capital inflow. This delineates a significant disparity in RWA-centric growth between the leading networks and their competitors.
Data from Token Terminal and RWA Foundation show that from the start of 2026 until October, XRP Ledger’s tokenized commodities attracted a net inflow of $2.2 billion, while Ethereum garnered $1.6 billion.
Why Companies Prefer XRPL
The technical composition of blockchain networks plays a pivotal role in industrial companies’ decisions. While Ethereum demands variable transaction fees and complex smart contract processes for asset issuance, XRPL offers direct protocol-level support for real-world asset tokenization. Its built-in IOU mechanism minimizes costs to a fraction of a cent and completes transactions within 3 to 5 seconds.
The energy sector has been a major driving force behind XRPL’s leading position. Most of the liquidity was generated by tokenized electricity production contracts, specifically JMWH, issued by the Latin America-based Justoken. These commodity-based tokens linked to the physical economy have increased the network’s market clout.
Demand from the energy sector, spearheaded by Justoken’s issuance of JMWH contracts, has accelerated XRPL’s momentum in commodity tokenization.
Rapid Growth Evident in Network Data
Data from RWA.xyz, as of October 5, 2026, indicates that XRP Ledger’s prominence is robustly reflected in network activities. Monthly RWA transaction volume surged over 224-fold, reaching $7.03 billion. The asset value represented on the network rose by 56% in the last 30 days, totaling $4.52 billion.
Moreover, XRPL saw growth in its stablecoin sector, with its market value reaching $1.25 billion. This increase was significantly influenced by the integration of the local token RLUSD. Monthly stablecoin transaction volume was recorded at $5.01 billion.
New Entrants Bolster the RWA Ecosystem
Parallel to the expansion in the commodities market, prominent players in adjacent RWA sectors have started utilizing XRPL’s infrastructure. Investment fund Franklin Templeton has contributed $48.3 million, and Ondo Finance brought $187.5 million in assets to the ecosystem. Additionally, Dubai-based developer DAMAC tokenized premium real estate shares in projects like Park Ridge Tower, Prive, and J One. Franklin Templeton is recognized globally as a reputable investment firm in asset management.
While Ethereum continues to hold its global preeminence in terms of total locked RWA value, primarily due to its handling of US government bonds, industrial capital preferences have increasingly shifted toward XRPL’s Ripple-backed infrastructure for physical goods and commodities.
