Recent market analysis indicates a hesitant trend for Bitcoin prices, as technical indicators and on-chain data suggest strong resistance at certain price levels. Although a definitive downward trend is not confirmed, the current data implies that demand may not be robust enough to support a sustained price increase.
Critical Price Resistance Observed
Bitcoin remains under intense scrutiny as it fails to breach the significant price range between $83,000 and $86,000, according to Glassnode. This region marks the concentration of cost bases for long-term investors, turning it into a pivotal barrier where upward pressure accumulates. In early September, despite nearing $82,000, Bitcoin could not break through, highlighting the market’s struggle to overcome this threshold.
The convergence of these investor cost bases, liquidation levels, and institutional Bitcoin ETF positions within this range further underscored the difficulty Bitcoin faces. Glassnode revealed the Bitcoin price approached within 1.5% of the lower boundary of this band before losing momentum, suggesting potential limitations in upward movement.
Glassnode identifies an accumulation of approximately 1.07 million BTC in the $83,000 to $86,000 range, with the most concentrated cost cluster forming around $85,000.
This accumulation helps to explain Bitcoin’s difficulty in sustaining upwards momentum, although it does not necessarily indicate a strong wave of selling from long-term investors. With resistance region sell pressures remaining limited, price rejection alone does not suggest the beginning of a large-scale distribution process.
Support Clusters From Short-term Buyers?
Amidst continued selling pressure from above by long-term investors, new buyers are establishing separate cost clusters closer to current prices. Glassnode notes that Bitcoin acquired within the $76,000 to $82,000 range is increasing, creating a support region below current prices.
Thus, Bitcoin finds itself caught between two opposing forces. Participants accumulating near current levels face off against a larger group of investors realizing profits higher up. Should demand in the $76,000 to $78,000 band persist, a retest of the $80,000 to $82,000 range is plausible. A failure at this accumulation point could spotlight $75,000 as a crucial initial level, with deeper corrections possibly revisiting the $62,000 to $65,000 range.
Is Demand Recovery Limited?
According to CryptoQuant data, negative readings on the 30-day visible demand are showing higher lows, indicating a less severe contraction in demand than previously observed, along with potentially reduced selling pressure. Nonetheless, the current recovery remains weaker compared to periods marked by strong, long-standing Bitcoin rises.
Julio Moreno, crypto analysis head at CryptoQuant, notes that while the market structure stays constructive, it faces a formidable resistance wall.
Julio Moreno emphasizes that despite Bitcoin’s constructive inclination, a strong resistance wall looms for the market.
Consequently, while a near $82,000 reversal holds significance, it doesn’t constitute a definitive peak. The market may encounter multiple challenges at resistance while trying to generate needed demand for a subsequent breakout.
What Signals Are Technical Indicators Sending?
Technical indicators reinforce the current cautious sentiment. As Bitcoin oscillates around $77,105, TradingView data reveals a mixed sentiment with six sell, seven neutral, and thirteen buy signals. The overall classification remains neutral rather than overtly bullish or bearish.
The RSI settling at 54 reflects a stabilization from the strong rally momentum, while other indicators like Momentum and MACD hint at short-term weakening. Moving averages, too, exhibit division; some short-term averages lie above the price, whereas the 30, 50, 100, and 200-day averages remain below BTC.
This scenario suggests Bitcoin is in more of a consolidation phase than an outright descent into a downward trend. Key support is monitored between $74,000 and $75,000, while resistance remains steadfast from $83,000 to $85,000. A clear direction is anticipated when one of these key levels breaks.
